Room-by-room moving inventory

An inventory turns "where is the kettle?" into "box 14, kitchen". Work through one room at a time and the job stays manageable.

  1. Start with storage areas such as the garage, attic and spare room. They're the easiest to pack early, and they show you what you can get rid of.
  2. For each room, list groups of items, not every fork. "Cutlery drawer" is enough. Record quantity, an approximate size, and whether it's fragile.
  3. Measure what matters: bulky items, anything that might not fit a standard box, and dense groups such as books. Mark the rest as estimates.
  4. Number boxes as you pack them and assign items to them. The master list then tells you what's in every box.
  5. Track status (packed, loaded, unloaded) on moving day to catch a missing box early.
  6. Keep a copy away from the boxes. Export the CSV or PDF in case your device is packed.

Privacy

An inventory is effectively a list of your valuables. Box Roster keeps it in your browser only. Treat exported files like any other personal document, and use Delete all data on shared devices.

Large homes

The planner is tested with 1,000 item lines on a phone-sized screen. Search finds items across all rooms, and lists show results in pages so the page stays fast.
